       PAST  CONTINUOUS (explicado en español )

Se forma el Past Continuous con:

el pasado del verbo To Be + ING 

WAS / WERE + ING

Was +Ing
I was living in El Bolsón   in 2001.
Yo estaba viviendo en  El Bolsón   en el 2001.

Este tiempo verbal se utiliza: 
*para describir una acción interrumpida por otra acción en pasado.

   
Was +Ing
I was driving along San Martin Avenue when I saw Henry.
Yo estaba conduciendo por Avenida San Martin cuando lo vi a Henry.

*para hablar sobre acciones en un tiempo especifico en el pasado

            Was +Ing 
Carol  was  living in San Rafael , Mendoza   in 2004.
Carol  estaba viviendo en San Rafael  , Mendoza en el  2004.

 *para dos acciones que estaban ocurriendo al mismo tiempo en el pasado.      

    

                 Were +Ing
While we were studying , we were watching the match .
Mientras nosotros estábamos estudiando , estábamos viendo el partido.

Se conjuga el Past Continuous con:
WAS/WERE (pasado de TO BE) +ING 

EL AFIRMATIVO se forma así

You  WERE  + ING
We   WERE  + ING
They WERE  + ING

* Were se puede abreviar 
con el uso de apóstrofe:
You were = You're 
We were = We 're 
They were = They 're 

Ejemplos:


    Was +Ing                        
I was studying English Literature.
Yo estaba estudiando Literatura Inglesa.

      Were +Ing
We were going to the match.
Nosotros estábamos yendo al partido.

El interrogativo se forma así















Ejemplos:

Were you talking to Alice?                               

¿Estabas Tú hablando con Alice?

Were  Anne   and Alice speaking to Tom?
¿Estaban Anne  y Alice hablando con Tom?

 El  NEGATIVO  se forma así

*Was not 
Were not 
se pueden abreviar 
con el uso de apóstrofe :
Was not = wasn't 
Were not = weren't 

Ejemplos:

   Was Not +Ing
I  was not  working on that  project.
Yo no estaba trabajando en ese proyecto.

                              Were not +Ing
William and Albert were not studying Chemistry at Hurlingham university.
William y Albert no estaban estudiando Química en la universidad de Hurlingham.

A menudo , se utiliza el Past Simple para describir la acción
 que finalizó y el Past Continuous para aquella otra 

que estaba ocurriendo cuando la primera tuvo lugar.

    

 Past simple                                    past continuous 
 Yesterday , when You called me, I was eating pasta.
Ayer, cuando me llamaste, yo estaba comiendo pasta.
Esto significa que yo estaba cocinando y en ese momento me llamaste.

  past simple                                  past continuous    
When my mother came home ,we were playing with the dog .
Cuando mi madre llegó a casa, nosotros estábamos jugando con el perro.
Esto significa que estábamos jugando con el perro y en ese momento llegó mi madre a casa.

EJEMPLO DE VERBO CONJUGADO
EN PAST CONTINUOUS
 
El  Afirmativo se forma con
WAS / WERE + ING 

 Verb To visit  = visitar 

I WAS   visiting   =Yo estaba visitando 
You were visiting  =Tú estabas visitando  
He/She/It WAS visiting  =Él estaba visitando 
We were visiting  = Nosotros estábamos visitando 
They were visiting =Ellos estaban visitando 

Ejemplos:                                                   

I was visiting my uncle when I met Albert.
Yo estaba visitando a mi tío cuando conocí a Albert.

We were visiting our grandparents when the  snowstorm  hit Bariloche. 
Nosotros estábamos visitando a nuestros abuelos cuando la tormenta de nieve   golpeó Bariloche.

El interrogativo  se forma con  
Was/Were + SUJETO+ING

Verb to visit = visitar

WAS    I  visiting?
Were You visiting?
WAS    He/She/It visiting?
Were We visiting?
Were They visiting?

El Negativo 
Se forma con Was/Were +ING

Verb to Visit = visitar

I WAS  not visiting
You were not visiting
He/She/It WAS  not visiting
We were not visiting
They were not visiting
